25000 words

I started Call of Fire on January 1st. In one week, I have written 25,000 words. This is a good thing… and a bad thing. I am enormously stressed. I am actually making myself slow down at this point, as I need to get other things done and actually leave the house sometimes.

This gif is an accurate depiction of my mental state.

  1. I’ve been reading “Write Better Faster.” The more I read, the more I’m convinced that slow and steady wins the race. It seems like those writers who are pushing themselves for consistently outrageous word counts burn out after a couple days, then have to take a break from writing and ofttimes everything else. It averages out to the same number of words in the long run. For me, that’s not really worth it. For some people, it is. Keep us posted. I’m always interested in what works for other writers. Happy January!

    • Thanks! “Slow and steady” is certainly the healthiest way to go, but it’s hard to find the right balance with a looming deadline. I really want this stage done so I can start revising!
